Should TikTok Be Used in Classrooms?

Image
TikTok is a social media platform that allows users to make content and show other people their creations. There are also consumers who don’t make any content and who only watch what other people do. To go on, social media platforms have had a history of being addictive and distracting. These traits are able to pull in anyone and not let them go. This brings the question of whether the schools will be able to control this and morph the addictiveness of TikTok to something that truly empowers the students. In the podcast titled “Should TikTok be Used in Schools?” Phil Cook, an educational influencer and high school chemistry teacher, states that TikTok is helpful and should be in the school curriculum, however, Adrian Dingle, a chemistry teacher and educational consultant, states the vise versa. Physics teachers such as Adrian Dingle agree that TikTok should not be part of the learning curriculum of schools. He first states that TikTok pulls...

"Memory and Forgetting" by RadioLab

Image
The podcast “Memory and Forgetting” by RadioLab talks about how a very talented conductor got very ill and he forgot everything about his life. He wakes up every minute and thinks that he just woke up from a very long dream. Then writes down that he had woken up, but he does many many times because he forgets things in a second so after he forgets he will write the same thing over and over again. Although he forgot mostly everything, some things that he did not forget were his love for his wife and his creativeness for music. When he woke up and saw his wife once he remembered her and he started to hug and kiss her and said that he missed the feeling of love. Doctors were very surprised by this because when you have amnesia you forget things such as who you are, where you live and what your job is. Not only did he not forget the love of his life, he also remembered how to sing and conduct. When his wife was singing he started to sing along with her. Also he remembered how to conduct so...

The Story "Lather and Nothing Else" Shows You Should Listen To Your Own Ideas

Image
I think that the barber should have killed the captain but it turns out in the end that the captain was testing the barber if he was going to kill him or not. Although I say that the barber should have killed the captain in the end like the barber said himself, his enemies are going to hunt him down until they find and hang him. I used to have fights with my sister and when she did something very rude to me I would tell my mom but if my mom didn't do anything then I would steal something from my sister's things to make it even.      I am a middle child and I usually don’t get all the attention, which I am fine with but that leaves me to make my own choices which can be very hard. For example, I play the piano and I need to practice every day. I also choose which piece of music I want to play, but choosing the piece of music is very hard because I don’t want it to be too long but I don’t want it to be too short. When I find a ...

My Thoughts on the New Atlas Robot

Image
Robots are getting more and more humanoid by the year. Boston Dynamics is a company that makes a lot of robots that are humanoid. One robot that they made is called Atlas. Atlas is a robot that can pick things up and move like a human. Although this is a huge step taken by Boston Dynamics they did not stop there and kept on going. In 11 years Boston Dynamic has come back with an even more enhanced robot. This robot is very unique because it is very flexible. In the video that Boston Dynamics had made the robot starts off lying down on the floor then comes to life and bends its leg over its body then stands up and twists its whole upper body. Not only is it flexible but the design of the robot is more clean. Atlas had a lot of cables and wires sticking out but the new robot had nothing sticking out. The shape of the body was changed drastically. Atlas had a very bulky body shape but the new robot has a very slim and simple body shape almost as if it were human. Another enhancement that ...

How the Short Story "Ruthless" Builds Suspense

Image
In the short story “Ruthless,” we are introduced to our main character Judson. He is a very arrogant and ruthless person. He doesn't let anyone else touch his belongings in his closet because they are very special to him and if someone does touch them, then he will get really mad at them. He poisons his whiskey bottle to make the thieves learn their lesson and does not call it murder. After a while, he falls and someone gives him the poisoned whiskey to refresh his mind, which kills him.  The way that the author builds suspense early in the story is to put us in the perspective of his wife. This helps the author because it lets him be more vague when he is telling the readers what is going on. If the author puts the perspective of Judson, then we will already know what he is going to do with the bottle so it will not be as suspenseful. But, when you write from the wife’s, perspective she will not know what is going on so it will be more suspenseful. Another suspense-building...

How “The Showdown” Shows That Bystanders Are Contagious

Image
People will follow what others do that they think is right but they won't stand up and do it themselves if no one does it first. In the short story “The Showdown” by Shirley Jackson,  everyone only stands up for themselves and does not for anyone else. Billy is our protagonist and he is a kid who loves fishing. Every day, when he is walking back from fishing, he looks at the street and sees Susy’s dad kill Tom because he wants him to stay away from Susy. He doesn't think much of it and walks home. He comes back home late every day and every day he doesn't get to eat dinner. One day he questions why he’s always late to eat dinner and finally notices that he is living in a loop where all the events happen over and over again. He doesn’t want to be in this loop anymore so he decides the only way to end the loop is for him to end the death of Tom. On the day that he chooses, he jumps in the middle of Susy’s dad and Tom and takes the hit.        Initially, Billy do...

Sora Video AI is Controversial, But It Won't Be a Big Deal

Image
Sora is an AI that makes high-quality videos. Not only does it make videos but it makes lengthy videos too ranging from 1-2 minutes. People think that it will make misinformation videos and there might be some copyrighted things in the videos too.  I don’t think that the video AI will cause misinformation because if the company does put misinformation things on its AI website then no one will trust them anymore and that company will get canceled. Copyright is a really bad thing because it means that the person who made the idea will not get credit and the person who stole the idea will get all the credit. It is not a moral thing to do and it is not fair for the person who made it. If people find out it will make the people not trust that the company actually made the idea up by themselves even though they did so that is really bad for the company too. People also are very skeptical that most of the videos are not going too deep in meaning because it is made out of AI. I do and don...
